Cafeteria Plan

The AZSA Health Insurance Society uses a Cafeteria Plan (allowing you to choose the welfare services you use).

How does the Cafeteria Plan work?

The Cafeteria Plan is a program that lets insured persons choose the services they want from a menu of options using the points they’ve received. This lets the Society meet the wide-ranging needs of insured persons while making effective use of its budget. The AZSA Health Insurance Society’s Cafeteria Plan is accessed using the Internet, so you can use it from your home computer at any time, 24 hours/day. The menu of health activities is limited to the categories specified by the ministerial ordinance of the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare of Japan mentioned above.

Cafeteria Points

Cafeteria Points are distributed to insured persons who log in to the Cafeteria Plan site and answer the questionnaire on or after April 1 of each year. Each individual is assigned a starting point balance, with each point having a value of one yen. Each point is a fixed amount and has a value of one yen. The number of points distributed is based on the financial health of the Health Insurance Society and thus varies from year to year. Think of these points as assistance with the cost of using the menu of health activities (Cafeteria Services) provided by the Society. They are not cash payments by the Society to insured persons. If a person loses his or her eligibility as an insured person, his or her points are no longer valid, and any remaining points will be cancelled automatically.

Note that only the insured person and his or her dependent family members can use points for Cafeteria Services. Points cannot be transferred to those who are not members of the Society or to other insured persons. Also, in principle, those who have a zero points balance cannot use Cafeteria Services.
However, if you apply to use a service for which you lack sufficient points, you will be informed of the cash amount required to make up the shortfall. In such cases, promptly remit the amount of this payment to the designated bank account.
Try to use your points effectively and appropriately.

Purchasing points In addition to points awarded by the Society, each individual can purchase points for cash as he or she sees fit. Using purchased points makes it possible to use services like staying at expensive lodging facilities or menu items used each month without worrying about your Cafeteria Point balance. It also minimizes the inconvenience of settling in cash if you do not have enough points (for example, by reducing remittance fees). Click the “Purchase Cafeteria Points” button on the Society homepage for information on procedures for purchasing points and other aspects.
- Points purchase unit: 1 pts, with a minimum purchase of 1 pts.
- Period of validity: Points purchased will be added to your account after confirming payment. Expiration date is 1 year.
- Caution: Points are available for use only after they have been credited to your account.
